MD Nicholas Turney has been nominated to 40under40

There are only a few days left to vote on your favorite West Australian business entrepreneur in the 40 under 40 People's Choice Award 2019, and Engixo Managing Director, Nicholas Turney, is among the elite candidates.

Nicholas founded Engixo - previously called Eco Climate Solutions - with a vision to provide the most energy efficiency and environmentally friendly commercial building and cooling solutions in Perth, Western Australia.

As a young entrepreneur, he strives to be at the forefront of green leading technologies, always studying new ways to provide the best cost-effective and green options to Engixo customers.

"We’re a small company taking on major industry players, reducing client’s operational costs by optimising efficiencies. Our approach is unique: using the latest technologies, we combat waste without compromising standards" Nicholas summarise.

Registering more than 75% growth on new client’s database on its second year, while reducing 812 tonnes of Co2 emissions into the atmosphere, could be considered a good indication that the company is on the right path to drive a market change.

The pursuit

The small company has a clear mission and audacious goals ahead: by 2020, Engixo should reduce 2 million kilograms on carbon footprint in Perth alone.

"We recently custom built a power and plant monitoring tool which identified inefficiencies in the power and mechanical equipment of a major client. We designed a tailored solution to reduce electricity expenditure by 83% utilising solar PV and reduce remaining consumption by 25% with intelligent controls. This client alone will save an estimated $138,000 per year with a 447000 kilograms annual Co2 Abatement.

We are developing systems that use energy-efficient refrigerants with zero GWP (Global Warming Potential) and gaining experience of working in Hazardous Area environments to develop the safest procedures and practices to aid policy change for the national, commercial roll-out of zero GWP hydrocarbon refrigerants to replace existing high GWP versions. We research the latest technologies and developments internationally to minimise emissions locally. We talk to people, travel and learn. We've proved it is possible to change attitudes and improve the environment given the right approach, the right people, and the right knowledge " explains the Managing Director.

Up for a challenge

Although certain that he is in the right path, Nicholas is aware that his challenges are bigger than what regular business would face. It is about leading a new way to be efficient by re-educating the market:

"If businesses maximised the efficiency of mechanical services, there’d be a reduction of around 11.4 million tonnes of CO2 emissions Australia-wide annually at a saving of almost $4 billion. I’m passionate about getting this message across; it makes sense on a commercial and environmental level. Efficiency is something that motivates me in all aspects of my life and I look for efficiency gains wherever I can. This is the same approach I use to build my business".

Good thing is that the Engixo founder doesn't limit his work at his own company. Nicholas also works in partnership with organisations such as Raw Impact and Plastking to support community change in Cambodia and Bali.

About 40 under 40 Awards

Established in 2002 by Business News, the 40under40 Awards program is designed to recognise and celebrate Western Australia's 40 leading business entrepreneurs under the age of 40.
